Dr Rosalie Shaw has been practising as a palliative care physician since 1981 when she established the first hospital based palliative care unit in Australia in Hollywood Hospital in Perth. In 1992 she was invited to Singapore to be Medical Director of the Hospice Care Association, a position she held until she was appointed as the inaugural Executive Director of Asia Pacific Hospice Palliative Care Network in 1999.. In this position until 2009 she made 124 visits to 22 countries as clinical teacher and management consultant. She was awarded the Public Service Medal and the Order of Australia Medal by the Australian Government and the PBM (Public Service Medal) by the Singapore Government.
Dr Shaw wrote about her experiences in Singapore in Soft Sift in an Hourglass - Hope and Resilence at the End Of Life published in 2009.
