Dr. David Hui is a tenured professor and Director of Research at the Department of Palliative Care, Rehabilitation and Integrative Medicine, with a joint appointment to the Department of General Oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, USA. His research interests include integration of supportive/palliative care and oncology, symptom management clinical trials, prognostication, and research methodology. He completed his medical school at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, followed by internal medicine residency at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, medical oncology fellowship at the British Columbia Cancer Agency, and supportive/palliative oncology clinical research fellowship at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He also has a Master’s degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and a second Master’s degree in Patient Based Biological Research. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology in Canada and the US, and also Palliative Care and Hospice Medicine in the US.

He is currently the principal investigator of multiple randomized trials on dyspnea and delirium funded by the National Cancer Institute. His research is also supported by the National Institute of Nursing Research, the American Cancer Society and other agencies. He has authored and/or co-authored over 300 scientific papers, with his work appearing at various peer-review journals such as JAMA, JAMA Oncol, J Clin Oncol, CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians, Lancet Oncol and Ann Oncol. He is also the author/editor of 4 books (Approach to Internal Medicine, Drugs & Drugs, and Internal Medicine Issues in Palliative Cancer Care, 50 Palliative Care Studies Every Doctor Should Know).

Dr. Hui currently serves as a standing member of a study section at the National Institutes of Health. He is also a senior associate editor of the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management and a board member of the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer. Eric L. Krakauer, MD, PhD, is Director of the Program in Global Palliative Care and Associate Professor of Medicine and Global Health at Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA. He also is an attending physician in the Division of Palliative Care at Massachusetts General Hospital and Honorary Chair of the Department of Palliative Care at the University of Medicine & Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. For many years, he and his team have collaborated with the World Health Organization (WHO) and with ministries of health, hospitals, and medical schools in low- and middle-income countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas, to help integrate palliative care into health care services and education. He has served on the Lancet Commission on Palliative Care and as Medical Officer for Palliative Care at WHO Headquarters. Arif Kamal MD, MBA, MHS, FACP, FAAHPM, FASCO is the inaugural Chief Patient Officer of the American Cancer Society and Consulting Associate Professor of Medicine at Duke University. He is a nationally-recognized thought leader and health services researcher with particular expertise in the delivery and evaluation of high quality supportive and palliative care to patients with cancer and their caregivers. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts in JAMA, Annals of Internal Medicine, and Journal of Clinical Oncology and has been quoted or featured on CNN, USA Today, National Public Radio, Forbes, The Economist, and many others.

Yoshi (Yoshiyuki Kizawa) is a Director of the Department of Palliative and Supportive Care at the University of Tsukuba Hospital and the Professor of Palliative Medicine at the University of Tsukuba, Faculty of Medicine. He has been re-elected as President of the Japanese Society for palliative medicine in Japan, which has more than 12000 members. Yoshi leads an education program that aims to acquire basic skills of palliative care for all health care professionals to improve the quality of life of patients and families who are in life-threatening conditions. The national primary palliative care education project namely PEACE (Palliative care Emphasis program on symptom management and Assessment for Continuous medical Education) was launched in 2007 funded by the Japanese government and disseminated all over Japan. Until March 2022, more than 150,000 physicians finished the 2-day education course. Dr Lee Guozhang is dually-accredited in both Internal Medicine and Palliative Medicine, and has a keen interest in the area of non-cancer palliative care. After returning from palliative medicine subspecialty training in 2018, he set up the Internal Medicine Supportive and Palliative Care Service (IM-SPCS) in Singapore General Hospital (SGH), which focuses on providing supportive & palliative care for patients with chronic disease and multi-morbidity. He is also closely involved in running the multidisciplinary Renal Supportive Care (RSC) service, and works collaboratively with the hospital’s nephrology department to provide supportive care for patients with advanced chronic kidney disease. Elizabeth Johnston Taylor, PhD, RN, FAAN, Professor, Loma Linda University School of Nursing, Loma Linda, California, USA, has pursued a program of research exploring the intersection of spirituality, religiosity, health, and nursing for over 30 years. Her clinical experiences as an oncology nurse created for her a deep interest in these topics, and led her to pursue a PhD (University of Pennsylvania, 1992), a post-doctoral fellowship (UCLA, 1993-95), Clinical Pastoral Education, and training in spiritual direction. Her life experiences include a stint as Research Director, Mary Potter Hospice, Wellington, New Zealand. The desire to help nurses understand and support patient spiritual health during health-related transitions has motivated Beth to write extensively and lecture globally. Her over 150 publications include the following books: Spiritual Care: Nursing Theory, Research, and Practice (Prentice Hall, 2002; translated into Japanese), What Do I Say? Talking with Patients about Spirituality (Templeton Press, 2007; translated into Korean), Religion: A Clinical Guide for Nurses (Springer, 2012), and Fast facts about religion: Implications for nursing care (Springer, 2019). Kyung-Ah Kang, R.N. PhD, is a professor of nursing department, who have worked teaching pediatric nursing, palliative Care, and nursing theory in Sahmyook University in Seoul, Korea. She is also the audit of Korean Society for Hospice & Palliative Care.
Her most recent academic writing was a corresponding author article – ‘Web-Based Research Trends on Child and Adolescent Cancer Survivors Over the Last 5 Years: Text Network Analysis and Topic Modeling Study’, which was published in June 2022 at Journal of Medical Internet Research (JMIR). Another updated one as a first author was published in 2021 at the BMC palliative care: A meaning-centered spiritual care training program for hospice palliative care teams in South Korea: development and preliminary evaluation.
She began studying Logotherapy in 1999 and has been grateful to see how it has positively impacted her own life, nurturing her children, and interacting with students. On return to India, he has held clinical and academic positions at the Health Care Global, Bangalore and Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. Since 2018, he is Professor and Head of the Department of Palliative Medicine and Supportive Care at KMC Manipal and the Coordinator of Manipal Comprehensive Cancer Care Centre. Professor Wang Ying Wei is the director of the Centre for Palliative Care and medical consultant in Hualien Tzuchi Hospital. He completed his residency training in Family Medicine in National Taiwan University Hospital. He was the former Director General in Health Promotion Administration MOHW, and the chief in Heart Lotus Hospice in Tzuchi General Hospital. He developed many innovative programs for geriatric care, palliative care and medical humanities in Taiwan in the past few years. A qualified general practitioner/ family physician and specialist in palliative medicine from the UK, with many years’ experience working in Nepal and South Asia. He is currently living and working in rural Nepal developing a model of primary palliative care. He has a PhD in Health Sciences from Warwick Medical School, UK which he undertook within the Centre for Primary Health Care Studies. His thesis focused on the interface between primary and secondary care in delivering palliative care. He led palliative care research at Warwick Medical School between 2003 and 2013 including evaluating the Gold Standards Framework, an international approach enabling primary care practitioners to provide excellent palliative care. He first worked in Nepal in 1988-1991 and then returned in 2013 since which time he has been working with Nepali colleagues in developing appropriate palliative care. His current academic base is with the Primary Palliative Care Research Group in the Usher Institute, University of Edinburgh. In 2021, together with colleagues in the region he established the Asia Pacific Primary Palliative Care Special Interest Group which has been adopted by APHN.

Dr. Gemma Aburn is a Nurse Specialist in children’s palliative care at Starship Child Health in Auckland, New Zealand. Gemma also holds an academic appointment at the University of Auckland in the School of Nursing. She has recently completed her PhD in Nursing, exploring staff experiences of working in a children’s blood and cancer centre in Aotearoa, with a particular focus on how staff maintain resilience. Gemma established and leads the Child & Youth Health Nursing Network in the School of Nursing at the University of Auckland. Gemma is actively involved in education throughout the continuum of undergraduate, postgraduate and professional development of health professionals working with children with serious illness. Gemma is currently leading an Auckland Medical Research Foundation funded project exploring paediatric clinician’s attitudes, knowledge and skills in caring for children with serious illness and palliative care needs. This project also seeks to develop an evidence based and culturally safe education programme specific to the New Zealand context recognising care needs of both Māori and non-Māori children and their whānau (family).

Dr. Seong-Hoon, Shin is a tenured professor of internal medicine at Kosin University College of Medicine. His specialty is medical oncology and cancer supportive care. He has been the director of department of medical oncology and hospice care center at Kosin University Gospel Hospital (KUGH), since 2019.
His research interests include various symptom management of cancer patients and integration of digital healthcare to cancer supportive care. He completed his medical school at Kosin University, Busan, South Korea, followed by internal medicine residency and medical oncology fellowship at KUGH, and worked at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center as a supportive and palliative oncology clinical visiting researcher. (2012-2013).
He is the chairperson of palliative care and cancer supportive care committee of Korean Cancer Study Group (KCSG). He also serves as the regional president of the Association for Hospice and Palliative Care in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam region.

Dr. Yuen-Liang Lai is a professor of MacKay Medical College, and Taipei Medical University in Taiwan. His specialty is radiation oncology and palliative medicine. He was the former chairman of Asia Pacific Hospice Palliative Care Network (APHN), Taiwan Hospice Organization, and the founding chairman of Taiwan Academy of Hospice Palliative Medicine (TAHPM). Now he is the board member of Taiwan Spiritual Care Professionals Association and TAHPM to devote himself to integrate humanity and technology in the new era of palliative medicine developed in Taiwan.

He received his diploma in Palliative Medicine from University of Wales College of Medicine in United Kingdom. After brief stints as a clinical fellow at Royal North Shore Hospital in Australia and Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center in U.S., he was appointed to the Department of Radiation Oncology at MacKay Memorial Hospital as a director. From 1990 to 2009, he had served as the first medical director in MacKay Hospice Palliative Care Center which is the pioneer hospice palliative care ward in Taiwan.

Dr. Lai has made nearly 200 scholarly contributions, including more than 100 peer-reviewed research papers. His research interests include integration of palliative care and oncology, symptom management. He also works out the evidence basis to say no to the medical futilities. In addition to being co-investigator on numerous clinical trials and researches, he performed a pivotal role in developing the first novel botanical drug approved for improving cancer-related fatigue among cancer patients.

Mi Hyeon Seo is a APN in the Hospice Palliative Care Team at Samsung Medical Center.
She has worked as a clinical nurse in hemato-oncology, counselor of life-sustaining treatment and member of the brain death committee. Dr Perdamaian is a lecturer in General Practice, Primary Care and Public Health at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Dr Andy H. Y. Ho is a psychologist, social scientist, educator who specializes in thanatology, public health palliative care, psychosocial gerontology, integrative therapies, and community empowerment. He is the President for the Association for Death Education and Counseling (ADEC) and serves as Board Director of the prestigious International Work Group on Death Dying and Bereavement (IWGDDB). He is also the Head of Psychology and Associate Professor of Psychology and Medicine at Nanyang Technological University, as well as Director of Research of the Palliative Care Centre for Excellence in Research and Education (PalC) Singapore. A clinical innovator, Andy has founded a number of acclaimed and innovative psycho-socio-spiritual interventions for health promotion, some of which include: Mindful-Compassion Art-based Therapy (MCAT) for burnout prevention; Family Dignity Intervention (FDI) for advancing holistic palliative care services; and Narrative e-Writing Intervention (NeW-I) for augmenting pediatrics palliative care and parental bereavement services. Andy is the recipient 2018 ADEC Academic Educator Award, 2019 Nanyang Educator Award, and the 2020 Distinguished Alumni Award of the University of Hong Kong. He has authored over 120 top-tier publications and presented more than 200 keynote and plenary sessions across the globe.

Diah Martina is a faculty at the Division of Psychosomatic and Palliative Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia, and a medical staff in the academic top-referral national general hospital – Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Indonesia. She did her Palliative Care Fellowship in 2017 in Erasmus MC Cancer Institute supported by ESMO Palliative Care Fellowship Award and became the first Indonesian recipient of an International Development and Education Award in Palliative Care (IDEA-PC) from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). Her primary research interests and focus are serious illness communication, cultural sensitivity, spirituality, and palliative care capacity building. Diah takes part in numerous international research and academic collaborations, particularly in serious illness communication and its cultural sensitivity. She had published several publications, including a declaration of advance care planning in Asia. Diah actively participates in global volunteering activities, serving as a member of the ASCO council for the Asia-Pacific area (as of 2019). Recently, she has been involved in an advocacy effort for palliative care in the country by collaborating with several national stakeholders, including WHO-Indonesia, and the Indonesian Ministry of Health.

A/Prof Aggarwal has been the Head of the Palliative Care Department at Concord Hospital since 1996 and is currently the Deputy Clinical Director Cancer Services and Palliative Care SLHD. Her practice includes hospital consultancy, ambulatory and inpatient care in palliative medicine within the district wide Sydney Palliative Care Service, SLHD. She has been involved in the development of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians Chapter of Palliative Medicine and is the chair of the Executive of the Sydney Institute of Palliative Medicine. Her interests include undergraduate and postgraduate education in palliative care, communication skills and ethics and end of life decision making. She has been involved for a number of years in the strategic development of Palliative Care in New South Wales. Currently she is involved in teaching and development of Palliative Care in the Asia-Pacific region.

Professor Richard Harding is the Herbert Dunhill Professor of Palliative Care & Rehabilitation, Director of the Cicely Saunders Institute & Vice Dean (International) of the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care, King’s College London, United Kingdom.
At the Cicely Saunders Institute Richard directs the WHO Collaborating Centre for Palliative Care. He is a Board Member of the World Hospice Palliative Care Alliance and is founding Director of the Centre for Global Health Palliative Care. Richard was awarded the African Palliative Care Association prize for leading publications in palliative care and is co-Chair of the African Palliative Care Research Network. He holds a visiting Chair in Palliative Care at the University of Cape Town. Recently Richard has been appointed Adjunct Professor at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, India. Richard has a background in social science, HIV care management and health services research. His research focuses on person-centredness for people living with serious health conditions. He has a particular interest in patient-reported assessment of physical, psychological social and spiritual wellbeing in routine to ensure people are empowered to identify what matters to them in their care. He has developed simple tools to enable this. His global programme promotes person-centredness across the life course. This includes methods to enable children to identify their concerns to health care professionals, and optimising wellbeing at the end of life.

Dr Chong Poh Heng is Medical Director of HCA Hospice Limited and Vice Chair of the Singapore Hospice Council. His passion lies in advocating for equitable access to palliative care for all, particularly in ensuring that people with serious illness can receive quality end-of-life care in their own homes. He was the adult category winner of the Leader of Good award at the President’s Volunteerism and Philanthropy Awards ceremony in 2021. An ardent advocate for children with life limiting illness, he co-chairs the Special Interest Group in Paediatric Palliative Care with APHN, organising various training, educational and research initiatives across the region.

Ross Drake is a Paediatrician who specialises in Pain Medicine and Palliative Care for children having gained fellowships in Paediatrics (2000), Palliative Medicine (2003) and Pain Medicine (2011) after he completed specialist training at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London and The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in Sydney. Ross is Clinical Lead of the Paediatric Palliative Care and Complex Pain Services at Starship Children’s Hospital; both being the only services of their type in New Zealand. Amongst his clinical duties he strives to improve the recognition and support of children and their families requiring palliative care or management of chronic pain. He remains very involved in developing a national approach to both disciplines and works to improve and enable equitable access and service delivery for all New Zealand children in need.
Dr Drake regularly presents and teaches on children’s pain medicine and palliative care. More recently, he has been involved with establishing an international pharmacovigilance research collaborative looking at the effectiveness and adverse effects of medications and other interventions commonly used in palliative care and pain management.

Dr. Salek is a physician scientist in the department of Global Pediatric Medicine at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the United States. She completed her fellowship in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at St. Jude and previously completed a fellowship in Palliative and Hospice Medicine at the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Hospital. Dr. Salek’s research interests lie at the intersection of oncology, palliative care, and global pediatric medicine and centers on improving outcomes for children diagnosed with cancer by developing and implementing strategies for palliative care integration. She currently leads two qualitative studies that focus on understanding factors impacting decision-making for children presenting with advanced or incurable cancer at the time of diagnosis. She is also co-leading a study in Asia Pacific aimed at understanding physician perspectives for palliative care integration in childhood cancer. Clinically, she dedicates time to caring for children on the leukemia and lymphoma and palliative care services at St. Jude.

Dr Dipti Lath Mittal is a Palliative Medicine Physician from Sydney, Australia who works in a variety of clinical settings including consultative, inpatient and ambulatory care.

Dipti has been actively involved in teaching and mentoring medical students, junior doctors, and trainees throughout her career. She is a Senior Lecturer at The University of Sydney and a member of the Asia Pacific Hospice Network and engaged in service development and education in the Pacific Island Nations.

Dr. Kim Eun-jung, a certified Hospice and Palliative care Music Therapist(HPMT) and founder of Counsel Music, has been conducting clinical music therapy sessions at major hospices such as university hospitals and the National Cancer Center in Korea for more than 15 years.
She has been focusing on clinical methodology and education in hospice music therapy, and representative studies include 'Development and Verification of Music Therapy Protocol for Terminal Cancer Patients in Hospice Care(2016)', 'Hospice Music Therapy in Korea(2018)', 'Development and Evaluation of a Hospice and Palliative Care Music Therapy Education Program(2020)'.

Dr Ednin Hamzah is the Chief Executive Officer of Hospis Malaysia, a position held from 1997. Dr Ednin graduated in medicine from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom in 1986 and trained and worked in family medicine in the United Kingdom prior to returning to Malaysia in 1997.

Clinically, he leads the largest community palliative care service in Malaysia. He teaches palliative care in several universities at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Nationally he has been involved in palliative care, cancer control and pain management and has been on the Boards of several National Healthcare based Organisations. He is active in international palliative care education and advocacy and is the current Chair of the Asia Pacific Hospice Palliative Care Network and a member of the Board of Trustees for the Worldwide Hospice Palliative Care Alliance.

Dr Shirlynn Ho is deputy head of division as well as senior consultant in the Division of Supportive and Palliative Care in National Cancer Centre Singapore. Her passion is in capacity building and fostering clinical collaborations between different institutions across settings to bring about greater access to quality palliative care. Her clinical experience in both tertiary hospital as well as community setting, her current role as director of clinical services in the Singhealth-DukeNUS Supportive and Palliative Care Centre as well as Assistant Secretary in the Asia Pacific Hospice Palliative Care Network allows her to pursue this cause.
She had been involved in various Lien Centre for Palliative Care programmes (Sri Lanka, India, Bhutan, China) aimed at training and capacity building in the Asia Pacific Region, and is currently lead for the programme for Bhutan and co-lead for the programme in India.
Her latest interest in Traditional Chinese Medicine has led her to pursue a graduate diploma in acupuncture as she further explores the role of integrative medicine for oncology patients.

Takashi Yamaguchi, MD, PhD is currently appointed as the professor of the Department of Palliative Medicine at Kobe University Hospital, Kobe, Japan. He is board certified in palliative medicine and internal medicine. He received MD from Okayama University and PhD from University of Tsukuba. His research interest includes symptom palliation, especially dyspnea, and end-of-life care. He is the chief task member of developing Japanese clinical guidelines for the management of respiratory symptoms (Yamaguchi T, et al. J Palliat Med 2016; 19:925-35). He also took initiatives of APHN international survey about palliative care resources as the principle investigator (Yamaguchi T, et al. BMJ Suport Palliat Care 2017;7:23-31) . Dr. Yamaguchi has published more than 80 works in international palliative care journals and delivered several invited lectures in Asian countries.

Professor Lou Vivian W. Q. is the Director of Sau Po Centre on Ageing, and Professor at Department of Social Work & Social Administration at The University of Hong Kong. Her research interests focus on family gerontology, in particular family caregiving for dementia, stroke, end-of-life older adults, and social adaptation and mental health of Chinese older adults and family caregivers. She has committed to cross-sector collaboration with community partners, social enterprises, and the market. Prof. Lou has been appointed as a member of Statistics Advisory Board, Community Investment and Inclusion Fund, Senior Police Call Central Advisory Board, and Elderly Academy Development Foundation of the HKSAR Government. She is a fellow of the Gerontological Society of America, and a Council member of Hong Kong Association of Gerontology and Consortium of Institutes of Family Limited (CIFA). Jason Mills is Associate Professor and Enterprise Fellow at UniSA Clinical and Health Sciences, University of South Australia. He holds Fellowships with the Australian College of Nursing and the Higher Education Academy (UK), having completed postgraduate studies in Health Promoting Palliative Care, Medical Anthropology, Compassion Science, and Positive Education. His research is focused on Public Health Palliative Care, and seeks to better understand and address the growing needs across health systems and communities for, and in partnership with, health services, healthcare consumers and their families/carers.

Associate Professor Mills has considerable experience in curriculum design and development, coordinating palliative care nursing curricula at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Australia.

Prof. Miyashita obtained his Bachelor of Health Sciences at the University of Tokyo in 1994. After clinical experience as a registered nurse, he started his academic carrier at the University of Tokyo as an assistant professor in 2007. In October 2019, he moved to Tohoku University as a Professor. He stayed at Cicely Saunders Institute, King’s College London, for six months from 2017 to 2018. Prof. Miyashita’s primary interests are the quality evaluation of palliative care, especially on post-bereavement surveys, quality indicators, and patient-reported outcomes. He has authored and co-authored more than 250 peer-review articles in international journals.

Existential Issues for Patients with Serious Illness

David W. Kissane, MD is an academic psychiatrist, palliative care physician and researcher in the fields of psycho-oncology and palliative care. He currently holds the Chair of Palliative Care Research with the University of Notre Dame Australia and the Cunningham Centre at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney (2019-present). He has previously been Head of the Department of Psychiatry for Monash University in Australia (2012-2019), Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York (2003-2012) and, before that, the Foundation Chair of Palliative Medicine at the University of Melbourne (1996-2003).

Professor Kissane’s academic interests include studies of existential distress, group, couples and family psychotherapy trials, communication skills training, and the ethics of end-of-life care. He is best known for his work on demoralization syndrome as a specifier for adjustment disorder and major depression in the medically ill, a form of low morale and poor coping that has preceded interventions to promote meaning-based coping. His model of family therapy delivered to ‘at risk’ families during palliative care has prevented complicated grief and prolonged grief disorder in bereavement. He has developed the Demoralization Scale (DS & DS-II), the Demoralization Interview (DI), the Psycho-existential Symptom Assessment Scale (PeSAS) and the Shame and Stigma Scale (SSS) in Head & Neck Cancer. He is the author of over 400 publications, including books exemplified by Oxford Textbook of Communication in Oncology and Palliative Care, Psychotherapy in Cancer Care, Bereavement Care for Families, and Psycho-oncology in Palliative and End-of-Life Care.

Prof Kissane has been recognised by the International Psycho-Oncology Society with its Sutherland Award for lifetime achievement, by Cornell University with its Klerman Award for psychotherapy research, by King’s College with its Dame Cecily Saunders lecture, and in 2018, he was made a Companion in the Order of Australia (AC) for his contribution to the development of the disciplines of Psycho-oncology and Palliative Care.

Dr. Hye Yoon Park is an associate professor at the Department of Psychiatry, Psycho-oncology Center, and Center for Palliative Care and Clinical Ethics at Seoul National University Hospital in South Korea. Dr. Park possesses professional experience in the care of patients with cancer or serious illnesses, with a background in consultation-liaison psychiatry and palliative care. Her research interests lie at the intersection of psychiatry and palliative care, encompassing the management of psychiatric symptoms and the provision of support for existential suffering. She is also deeply interested in clinical ethics and humanity, particularly those that arise in the context of serious illness, both at the individual and societal levels. Dr. Park completed a fellowship program at the MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics at the University of Chicago in 2018-2019. Currently, she serves as the director of the Academic Committee at the Korean Psycho-Oncology Society, as well as a member of the Education Committee and Study Group for Spiritual Care at the Korean Hospice and Palliative Care Society. She is also the director of Cancer Care and the Korean Psychosomatic Society.

Amy Y. M. Chow is a Professor with the Department of Social Work and Social Administration, The University of Hong Kong. She is the Director of the Jockey Club End-of-Life Community Care Project and the Master of New College of the University. With the background of registered social worker specialized in bereavement counseling, she is the founder of the first community based bereavement counseling centre in Hong Kong. She is also the Chairperson of the International Workgroup on Death, Dying and Bereavement and the former Secretary of the Association for Death Education and Counseling. Recently, she received the Association for Death Education and Counseling 2020 Research Recognition Award.

Dr Gilbert Fan, DProf, RSW, FAPA is a Clinical Supervisor (Satir), Fellow of the American Psychotherapy Association (USA) Registered Social Worker & Member of the International Workgroup of Death, Dying & Bereavement. Gilbert’s professional doctorate is in Social Work & Futures Studies. He has extensive experience as a medical social worker, having worked in both general and tertiary hospitals and a short teaching stint at the Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) lecturing in the Behavioural Sciences. He continues to teach in various capacities in social work and counselling programmes at both local and foreign universities. He was an Adjunct Senior Lecturer with the Department of Social Work, NUS (2015-2017, Honorary Senior Lecturer with the Department of Social Work & Social Administration, HKU (2014-2017), Lecturer (Part-time) with The Chinese University of Hong Kong (2017 to 2019). He has been appointed as Master Practice Leader by the Ministry of Social & Family Development in 2015-2020 and Fellow of the Social Service Institute in 2016-2019 and 2020 to present. He is being appointed as Adjunct Assistant Professor (Social Work, NUS) as of Jan 2023. Gilbert is currently the Chair for Volunteer Engagement & Co-Chair for Joy at Work Committee, Institution Wellness officer, HR Counsellor & Trainer (Employee Relations), Human Resource and Master MSW to the Department of Psychosocial Oncology, National Cancer Centre Singapore. His clinical interest is in griefwork and bereavement, experiential counselling and groupwork, particularly in the application of experiential counselling of patients with advanced cancers. His research interests include the study of coping behaviours, meaning-making and intervention models in cancer care.

Dr. Leung is currently Hon Consultant Geriatrician and Director of Geriatric Medicine Centre (Healthy Ageing) Of Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital. He was Head of Division of Geriatric Medicine and Rehabilitation of United Christian Hospital till 2015, Ex-Chairman of Geriatric Specialty Board of Hong Kong College of Physicians, Hon Associate Professor of Department of Medicine, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hon Associate Professor of Department of Medicine and Department of Social Work and Social Administration of University of Hong Kong. He is also President of Hong Kong Association of Gerontology and Hong Kong Continence Society. He has been Chief Editor of Hong Kong Journal of Gerontology and has been the Co-chief editor of Asian Journal of Gerontology and Geriatrics.  

Dr. Leung is council member of International Association of Gerontology and the Asia/Oceania Region of IAG. He also served as convenor of the Scientific Subcommittee of Clinical Medicine of the Asia/Oceania Region of IAG. Dr. Leung has been invited to lecture in symposium held in Korea, Japan, Singapore, Australia, China, Macau and Taiwan.  

Dr. Leung's major research interests are epidemiology in old age, health promotion, End of Life care, osteoporosis, fall, stroke, incontinence, long term care and public policy in old age. He is a major advocate in promoting End of Life Care for Older People in Community and Residential Care since 2007. Dr. Leung published widely in local and international journals and has been contributor to a number of books on health and ageing.  

Dr. Leung has served on various boards and bodies in Hong Kong and internationally in the International Association of Gerontology and Asia Pacific Advisory Board on Continence Care. He is also founding member of Hong Kong Osteoporosis Foundation.

Dr Chong Poh Heng is Medical Director of HCA Hospice Limited and Vice Chair of the Singapore Hospice Council. His passion lies in advocating for equitable access to palliative care for all, particularly in ensuring that people with serious illness can receive quality end-of-life care in their own homes. He was the adult category winner of the Leader of Good award at the President’s Volunteerism and Philanthropy Awards ceremony in 2021. An ardent advocate for children with life limiting illness, he co-chairs the Special Interest Group in Paediatric Palliative Care with APHN, organising various training, educational and research initiatives across the region.

Dr Ednin Hamzah is the Chief Executive Officer of Hospis Malaysia, a position held from 1997. Dr Ednin graduated in medicine from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom in 1986 and trained and worked in family medicine in the United Kingdom prior to returning to Malaysia in 1997.

Clinically, he leads the largest community palliative care service in Malaysia. He teaches palliative care in several universities at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Nationally he has been involved in palliative care, cancer control and pain management and has been on the Boards of several National Healthcare based Organisations. He is active in international palliative care education and advocacy and is the current Chair of the Asia Pacific Hospice Palliative Care Network and a member of the Board of Trustees for the Worldwide Hospice Palliative Care Alliance.
